Daylight Savings Time Post

Rosewood St - between Broad and 15th and Catharine and Fitzwater

Losing an hour of sleep did not mean I would lose an hour of graffiti reporting.  Despite being exhausted, I still trekked out.  Without a lot of time, I decided to stay close to home and do a repeat of a some areas I have done before - particularly Catharine St from 18th to Broad.  It was mostly good - not a lot of big stuff.  I did trek down Rosewood St. between Broad and 15th and between Christian and Catharine and Fitzwater and found a lot of stuff, particularly the mural on the school.  Apparently Rosewood goes with the other tree names in the city (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosewood), not the site in Florida of 1923 massacre of African-Americans (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosewood,_Florida).  This was close to my alma mater, the University of Florida.

Going back through shows how hard it is to stay on top of this.  I wish more people would just report things in front their homes and on their blocks.  Our city would be much cleaner.

Still considering a walk down western Washington/Grays Ferry, Broad, and S 8th Streets.

76 to 95.  The one on North Broad is an error in the Philly 311 system.
Close up of this week and some of last week's.

Monday March 7
5th between Bainbridge and South - always seems to come back to this construction site.

Underpass by 25th and Washington.  Another area I've reported before.

Tuesday March 8

17th and Christian
16th and Lombard
32nd and Grays Ferry.  At some point I need to walk this area as it's hard to take pictures and drive.

Friday March 11

They clear out the graffiti on 5th between Bainbridge and South and it comes back.
5th and Lombard
I76 - Exit by 34th St.  Another repeat area.  Again, the Grays Ferry area is somewhere I need to walk.

Sunday March 13

Broad and Catharine.  They keep tagging this mural on a school.  Grrr.
`15th and Catharine.  In an earlier post they got the graffiti that was on the wall.  This time I submitted it as a vacant lot - some trash on the ground and a parking sign in the corner.
16th and Catharine - it's fun to report graffiti at the YWCA!
18th and Pine.  Mailboxes are not handled by 311 so I have to report them to the Greater Philadelphia Postal Customer Council.
16th and Fitzwater - also reported to the GPPCC.
Outfield wall on rec center at 18th and Catharine.  Another repeater.
Some "gay" statements on 18th and Catharine basketball court.
Coming off Exit 20 of I95 South Washington Ave on wall.  I volunteered earlier this morning packing food boxes (there's more than one way to improve your community) and got this on the way home.  I think it's another construction site.
Catharine between Broad and 15th - what is this thing anyway?

Presidents' Day and Catharine the Great

The weather and Sunday weddings are impacting my ability to submit graffiti.  Yesterday's wedding was in New York and I saw graffiti that I so wanted to report (http://www1.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/service/1114/graffiti-report).  Unfortunately, I had no clue where I was.  Fortunately, Presidents Day allowed me to do a little bit of work reporting graffiti - in Philadelphia - but the cold weather limits my desire to take my hands out of my gloves.  And next Sunday?  Visiting the mother-in-law.

I decided to hit a couple more blocks of Catharine since a couple of rabbis and their families live on the street.  The 1600 and 1700 blocks seemed relatively clear since stuff got cleaned up.  1400-1500 were a little bit of a different story.  I tried to find out who Catharine was.  Catharine Street's original name was Kansas but was renamed in 1898.  (http://www.phillyhistory.org/historicstreets/default.aspx)  Irwin Catharine, architect for Philly schools, would have been too young at the time. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irwin_T._Catharine)  Any ideas loyal readers?

For Presidents' Day, here's an article on the snow graffiti at Broad and Washington. http://www.passyunkpost.com/2016/02/15/broad-and-washington-snow-pile-gets-a-graffiti-makeover/

I also hit up some more things on 18th.  Graffiti right by Rittenhouse.

First from another graffiti reporter on Philly 311.  Does the person not know that people from the Republic of Niger are called Nigeriens?  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niger)

18th and Spruce by the Starbucks we always go to.  I missed this since it's on the side I don't see.  Cleared up now!

Tuesday February 9

Not quite graffiti, but a disgusting lot with overgrown vegetation and litter around 34th and Grays Ferry.  I submitted this for the city to take a look at.
Last week I got the giant SPAIN on Washington.  Got the other SPAIN on 34th and Grays Ferry.
18th and South.  Late night class on Tuesday forced me to find a spot on South Street.
18th and South.
16th and JFK
Broad and South

Wednesday February 10

700 block of South 17th.

Friday February 12

15th and Pine - see the window.  Hard to see through my messy car window.

Morris Street by you hit I95 South.

Sunday February 14

13th and Chestnut..
21st and Walnut
Monday February 15

15th and Catharine.  This one had been bugging me for a while because of the parking sign in the lot.
Catharine between Broad and 15th.  At least they didn't touch the rest of the mural.
Literally across the street from me at Starbucks - I can see this as I type.  Rittenhouse Market.
Stop Rape and Graffiti - 18th and Fitzwater.
More stuff at Marian Anderson.  This is the outfield fence as seen from the basketball court.

Thoughts or questions?  Any graffiti you want reported?
