Philly War on Graffiti: June 2016

First, an article on illegal dumping in Philly.

Here's another month of reports. I was reflecting on all things that get in the way of reporting graffiti.

1. Cold - using your cell phone in subfreezing weather is a pain in the butt.
2. Rain - It's not fun reporting graffiti in the rain.
3. Poor internet - Sometimes between my cell service and no wi-fi it's hard to get a submission.
4. Philly 311 - For whatever reason, it sometimes doesn't take my picture on the first... second... third... time trying to upload it.
5. Life - Wife, work, wife, school, wife, life, wife... all gets in the way. As my wife says, there are worse hobbies for me to have.

Not that my summer class is over I should have more free time to dedicate to all of you. :)

Monday May 30 Memorial Day
After morning services (and rather than immediately head back home to travel with wifey), I explored some more blocks around the synagogue - 5th and 6th between Lombard and South and South between 5th and 6th.

Tuesday May 31
Had dinner with a friend at Broad and South - lots of stuff on South, as usual. Then had to get wifey from a class.

Under I76 around 34th and Wharton coming home from work.

Had dinner in Chinatown with a friend. These are on the 9th and Race.

Tuesday June 7

Fitzwater between 17th and 18th

I had to report this one again on the 1500 Block of Catharine.

Wednesday June 8

18th and Washington - just a couple blocks from me.

I got word that my cat went missing (she was found!). I went looking for her in the AM. I also found graffiti on her block (wifey allergic so she is with a friend). 8th and Fitzwater.

Friday June 10

5th and Bainbridge... as usual.

I visited my cat after she came back and reported graffiti in the 8th and Catharine area. My cat's home is actually the President of the Bella Vista Neighbors Association.

Tuesday June 14

Construction dumpster at 9th and Pine. Not sure if they'll clean this.

S. American - between 3rd and 4th and South and Lombard.

After my synagogue's Board Meeting, said Bella Vista Neighbor Association President wanted to take me to some of the graffiti in the 9th and Bainbridge. Someone wants to pay an outside person to clean up the graffiti. He wanted me to prove that the city does it... for free.

Wednesday June 15

I had to drop wifey off at the Bolt Bus (Graduation Thursday - I joined her later in the evening.) Then my car had its heat shield come loose so I went to the Firestone around the corner off Drexel's campus. I got some of the graffiti in those areas.

Sunday June 19

After morning services, I took the long route to the Farmers Market at 2nd and Lombard. Down 5th, then Bainbridge, back to S. American for more things and then back down Lombard. Later, I was dragged to Riverdance but at least got some graffiti down South and on Broad.

Monday June 20

I parked at 21st and Webster/Catharine coming home. I walked down that part of Webster on the way home.

More stuff in the neighborhood.

5th and Lombard. I've seen this image elsewhere hence I finally reported this.

Off to Starbucks to work on schoolwork.

18th and South. Points for creative location.

Sunday June 26

I took the long route from synagogue to the Farmer's Market. The Reese/Randolph area has more graffiti. The again to Starbucks, however, the 18th and Spruce power outlets weren't working. Hence, I had to go to the one on 16th and Locust. I found out the 1700 Block of Spruce is covered by Philly 311 but the 1600 is not. I had to e-mail PPA (great response) for a kiosk and Center City District for a lamp.
