| GASP! Graffiti on 18th and Walnut across from Rittenhouse! |
William Bainbridge served as a US Navy officer in the early days of the United States. Two of his ships were the
USS Retaliation (surrendered by Bainbridge to the French in the Quasi-War in 1798) and the
USS Philadelphia (ran aground and captured by Tripoli in the Barbary Wars in 1803). (Side note: Fascinating story of how the US responded in our first engagement in Middle Eastern politics, how they destroyed the
Philadelphia, and why the Marine anthem mentions "the shores of Tripoli".) He later commanded the
USS Constitution (Old Ironsides... still afloat in Boston Harbor as the oldest still in service ship in the US Navy) in the War of 1812 and defeated the
HMS Java. Bainbridge is buried in Philadelphia and Bainbridge St. is named after him. (

Bainbridge St. is the first west to east road I hit and is often a easier trip than the more crowded Pine or South Sts. However, there was some graffiti in the 1200 block that had been nagging me. Hence, my plan was to hit the street today to get some of it. Unfortunately it took me longer to get through it then I thought.
Here's a news article on the work on Philly's Anti-Graffiti Network. Good tax dollars at work.

Current maps below. Philly 311 thinks a 6th St. issue from last week was at City Hall. Clearly the Bainbridge, 6th, 16th, 17th, and 18th stuff has been my area the past couple of weeks. This also shows the number of completed requests - green - that have been done so soon after I submit them. SUBMIT! The city truly gets to graffiti... but only if you report it.

Tuesday February 23
Went to a Jewish event on 17th and South. A few things on the 1700 and 1600 blocks of South St.

| Bainbridge between 5th and 6th. Construction site I believe for part of it. There is a lot of graffiti on this corner. They cleared this out when I went through on Sunday but still lots of other stuff. See below. |
| Lombard between 13th and Broad. |
Thursday February 25
| I-95 South entrance off Morris St. (around Exit 20). There had been graffiti a little further in that took a few weeks to get but some of it is back on the brick and paint. |
Dentist
Back to the dentist for cavity fillings. I saw some new things on 16th since I was last there a couple weeks ago. Hit parts of the other sides of 16th on the way there and 17th on the way home. Cold wind and needing to get there on time (and back home to see the wife) prevented me from getting more of it. Otherwise, the area looked much more clear.
| 18th and Fitzwater. Today's ironic graffiti - clearly the neighborhood watch is not doing a good enough job. |
| Seriously someone's AC? |
| With Philadelphia Inquirer readership down, the Journal for the Association for Research in Otolaryngology is taking over. |

Went back out again with wifey and got a few more. Would've gotten more but it was cold and I enjoy being with my wife significantly more than getting graffiti.
| 18th between Pine and Lombard |
| 16th and Sansom |
Friday February 26
| 34th and Wharton - on the way home from work. |
Sunday February 28
I took me a while to crawl through the 500 block of Bainbridge. I really wanted to hit some things on the 1200 block that I kept driving past. I finally had to "slow down" my graffiti reporting to get to the stuff I really wanted to report. I also had low battery on my phone and yours truly really does have other things to do. :) There were a few big things on 12th and South that I couldn't resist reporting. I walked down Lombard to give myself a break as the street is usually clear of graffit.
| Broad and Kater as I was getting gas. Multitasking at its finest. |
| On Lombard by the park on the 600 Block. |
| 12th and South |

| 12th and South. And more JARO. |
| 1200 block of Bainbridge. Bugging me for a while as I drove past it. |
| Also 1200 block on Bainbridge also easy to see. |
| Another obvious thing I see on the 1200 block of Bainbridge. |
| 900 block by rec area. |
| Construction area on 5th between Bainbridge and South. |
| 5th between Lombard and South. |
| 5th between South and Bainbridge. I want to see the reaction of the store owner when the cleanup crew comes. |
