Memorial Day

This Memorial Day Weekend, I found this set of graffiti in Los Angeles a little disturbing. LA Vietnam Memorial

Here is also a take on #lawlessphilly.  I think graffiti can fit under some of these issues.

And I got noticed by a police captain!  This is from one of the Thursday requests.  The 26th District encompasses Northern Liberties other parts of Philly just north of Center City.
Philly 311 Comment

The map on the left shows the 30th St and North Philly submissions.  The right is more focused on my neighborhood and my synagogue's.

What my e-mail looks like some days...

Friday May 20

Yay to being off on Fridays in the Summer!  I had an errand to run at 20th and Pine.  Several points of graffiti in the 19th-20th/Pine-South area plus some on the way to and from CVS.

If you see your shadow, six more weeks of graffiti.

Sunday May 22

In the morning I took the long route from synagogue to the farmers market at 2nd and Lombard.  The 5th and Bainbridge (always popular for graffiti) and Leithgow St. - between South and Bainbridge and 3rd and 4th.  Alleyways seem particularly prone to graffiti.  I had a bar mitzvah in the evening at a synagogue in Old City.  Lots of graffiti in the 4th and 5th and Market area.

18th and Pine/  This is the house that defines the broken windows theory.  It literally has broken windows and often has dog poop bags in the window stills.
Back on 18th.  Been there a while.
Parking lot on Leithgow.  They weren't able to get to it since it was behind a locked fence.

Monday May 23

5th and South

Tuesday May 24

The city missed picking up trash on our block.

Wednesday May 25
16th and Chestnut.  Center City District said no.  Trying Philly 311.
20th and Fitzwater.  The only reason I got this was because the person in front of me was smoking so I had to turn down a different street.
5th and Lombard

Thursday May 26

Wifey and I went to New York for the morning and afternoon so I got more graffiti in the 30th Street Station area.  In the evening, there was a festival for Lag B'Omer in North Philly - 5th and Cecil B. Moore.  There was a ton of graffiti surrounding the vacant lot we were using.

Friday May 27

Across the street from my synagogue between Lombard and South are the side streets of Reese, Randolph, and Rodman.  Here are the Reese St. graffiti.
Clearly this guy passed Biology 100

Sunday May 29

I got more of the graffiti on Rodman (they a got a good chunk of it last week, but I have to go through and do individual submissions) and then took another long route to the farmers market.  I went by Kater and Leithgow again - mostly clean but still plenty new graffiti to report.

3rd and Lombard
3rd between Lombard and South.
15th and Race.  Philly 311 said no.  Checking with Center City District
3rd and Washington
Starbucks at 4th and South.
This poor woman's house has been hit again.
